An environment designed for life
It is always been a dream of Paul’s to open up his own space. More than that, he wanted to create a place that many different people could feel comfortable while training. He produced a space that appeals to elite athletes, beginner exercisers, weekend warriors, and elderly lifestylers. Moreover, he wanted it to have a “homey” feel to it so that people would stick around after a workout and have a coffee or eat their lunch while conversing with the Thrive community.
For years Paul has been fascinated by the impact that workplace or exercise environments have on performance and happiness outcomes. “Like your job,” says Hemsworth, “exercise must have meaning and purpose in order for it to be a facet of your life that you can’t not do.” When you combine purposeful exercise with an environment that is conducive to success and support, you have an experience that is hard to beat.
At Thrive, we believe in more than working out and getting fit. We believe in lives lived to the full.

From the very beginning, it has been Paul’s ambition to create a training space full of light and life.
He’s done with the grim, black, lightless rooms that most gyms offer. “There is absolutely no life in rooms like that,” says Paul. “If you’re trying to make a change, even the space should help motivate you.”
“Our whole philosophy of change and growth,” says Paul, “needs an environment that works with you, not against you.”
Thrive’s space design does exactly that: a tall, open space that feels limitless. Splashes of bright colour that symbolize growth and vitality. A coffee and tea bar, to bring a new aspect of rest and discussion to the workout experience
“It’s such a stark contrast to the other gyms in Thunder Bay,” says one client. “It’s got so much life in it.”
